About

Stephanie Jackson is an artist, activist and educator from Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.

Jackson explores the relationship between her Anishinaabe and settler ancestry, and the unique experience of being a first-generation descendent through her practice of both contemporary and traditional Anishinaabe arts. She pulls mediums and themes from both worlds and combines them, creating illustrations rich in story and symbolism.

She earned her B.A. in Art, Art History and Museum Studies from Central Michigan University in 2014 and is currently pursuing an M.A. in Arts Management and Entrepreneurship at The University of Oklahoma. In 2023, she was awarded the Mellon Master’s Fellowship through the American Indian College Fund to complete her studies.

Stephanie’s personal mission is to bring awareness, accurate representation and appreciation for Anishinaabe Art and Artists. She is currently an adjunct professor at the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal College in Mt. Pleasant, MI, teaching Traditional Anishinaabe Arts, Beadwork and Contemporary Native American Art History. In her free time, she also runs Rabbit Print Studio as a way to connect with other art, nature and wildlife enthusiasts.
